The 3 theories

The trailer for spectre has many narrative techniques typical of Hollywood action films . One of these techniques is Barthes enigma codes . At the beginning of the trailer , we the audience get a sense of Barthes enigma code because there is an unknown man with a mask on which gets the audience questioning who he could be . Next there is another clear enigma code when Daniel Craig who plays the main character James Bond lays down with a gun pointing to a man in another building and from this the audience can infer that action is about to happen . Also in the trailer , we hear a conversation between Bond another man but all we hear is Bond saying " where is he ? " and the other man saying " He's everywhere " , which gets the audience thinking who they could be talking about and why they are talking about it . There are also action codes where we see very short shots of chasing , fighting and shot out scenes which all gets the audience excited .

Another technique that we see in the trailer is Propps character theory . From the trailer , we can immediately see that Bond is the hero in the film . One man in the trailer is Bond's helper as he is there to give him advice and give him a hand . Also in the trailer we get to see some people that Bond is up against . These people are called the villains and there is usually one main villain that is behind it all but allows its sidekicks to do the work for him/her . Daniel Craig's character does fit into the role of Propps theory because he is a typical sort of hero that is up against a villain and he trys to solve problems which is clearly shown in the trailer . As a result of this being shown in the trailer , it gives the viewers visceral pleasure because the audience find t exciting and interesting and would want to watch the full film .

Finally we get to see Todorovs theory in the trailer . However , it doesn't follow the order in what he believed because it starts off with disequilibrium not equilibrium . This makes more sense however because its an action film and gets the audience of the trailer engaged with it more and cuts straight to the action . The disequilibrium part of Todorovs theory is when there's a problem and something bad happens and this is what we see in the trailer of the film .

Representation of Spectre

The representation of gender in Spectre portrays typical stereotypes of gender . Males in the film are strong , powerful and show independence . Women in the film are shown to be weaker and less powerful than men . However , they are a bit underestimated as they can seduce the men which does give them an edge over them as they cause distractions . As a result , they are also shown to be cunning and sly . Also , Bond is English and in the film he is shown to be a formal in the way he dresses and speaks . He is shown to be confident in the work that he carries out too . Being a white man , Bond is also demonstrated to be heroic which reinforces the stereotype in Hollywood for action films with the white man being the hero . European people are shown to be evil and scheming which is also a typical stereotype in Hollywood films . The social class in the film is stereotypical because everyone is in a higher or upper middle class . This reinforces the stereotypical British class system because British people are considered to be of a high social class and posh or formal . Also , in the trailer , the men are represented to be violent because it shows the audience various shooting and fighting scenes which happen throughout the film . Overall , there are many characters that have
something stereotypical about them .

summer project revision

Title and tag line  : The title is Avengers Age of Ultron and the tag line is A new age begins .
Sub genre : The sub genre of this film is action
Narrative : Iron Man ( one of the avengers ) creates a robot that is meant to help people in the community but it became smart enough to know that it didnt have to take orders from people so it turned bad . It then created other robots like its self to dominate earth and destroy humanity .
Characters : The characters in the film all have some sort of super power or use futuristic technology to over some the villains. Also , its not just males that play the role of being heroes , females are in it too . This means that it would appeal to both males and female because its not just one gender in the film that plays the main roles .
Setting : The film is set on earth but the sci-fi element of it is that the building that the main characters are in has a lot of advanced and futuristic technology .
Mise-en-scene : The props that the different characters have are unique to them and people know them for having that prop . Guns , robot suite , electrical bow and arrow and others are used in the film . Also , in many parts of the film , the lighting is dark which can indicate to the audience that something bad could happen .

Central image : The central image is of Bond who is the main character looking confident and independent . The low angle shot makes him look more dominant and important rather than weak and vulnerable . The gun in his hand makes the reader infer that there will be action and violence .

Secondary image : The secondary image is of a man with a mask on , supposedly to conceal his identity . This could suggest that there will be surprises and shocks in the film . This would excite the audience as it creates suspense and makes them wonder what could happen in the film .

Slogan : The slogan is very short but many people know what to refer to when they hear it . The "007" is placed under the title of the film which makes it easier for people to see . At the end of the 7 , there is the tip of a gun that makes it look like a whole gun as it is attached to the 7 . This also indicates to the audience that there will be violence in the film .

Release date : There is no release date on the poster . However , it does say coming soon which creates a buzz for people that are interested in the Bond films .

Iconography : The gun in his hand defiantly tells the audience that the film is in the action genre . This is because guns represent violence and drama which both occur in action genre films .
