independence day case study

The production company of the film is 20th century fox .

This film also fits into the action genre .  This is because in many parts of the film , fighting happens and the element of war is in the film which is why it has factors of the action genre in it .

The narrative of the film fits into the sci-fi genre because it is about aliens invading the world and trying to take over . This is sci-fi because the sub genre for it is alien invasion .

One of the main characters in the film ( Will Smith ) would appeal to an audience because he is one of the hero's in the film and he is black . This doesn't always happen in Hollywood films because the hero's are usually which men . Therefore , this would appeal to an audience because its something different .

The mise-en-scene in the film fits into the sci-fi genre because there is advanced weapons and air craft props that the aliens have which fits into the genre well .

The IMDb rating for independence day is 6.9/10 .
The reviews and ratings for the film by users is 5050 with some saying that the film is bad and some saying the film is good and questioning those that don't like it .
some comments include " Sometimes you wonder just how bad a movie can be " "Personally I think this is the best movie of the 90's " "It is absolute rubbish.v "

The budget of the film was 75 million US dollars . On the opening weekend , the film made 50,200,000 million US dollars .

One of the main characters ( Will Smith ) has appeared in other sci-fi and action movies like i robot . The director has also made many other sci-fi films like Godzilla and The Day After Tomorrow .

The main star in the film Will Smith .

None of the main characters in the film or the director is mentioned in the trailer .

The audience would enjoy tense parts in the film and scenes where there is action and fighting .
One part of the film that the audience would enjoy is when the aliens first arrive . The audience would get visceral pleasure because they get a feeling of tension and excitement as the space ship arrives over America . A second part that the audience would enjoy is when the aliens attack . This is because the audience gets vicarious pleasure as they would feel sympathetic towards the people that are being attacked . They would also get voyeuristic pleasure because the audience can see how the different characters react in different situations . Finally , another part in the film the audience would enjoy is the presidents speech to the troops because they get voyeuristic as they can make a connection with the words that president says in his speech .

spectre

I chose this film because it is a brand new James Bond film that was released very recently . I also chose it because it looks like an action packed film that looks interesting to watch .

The film production company behind the movie is Columbia pictures .

This film fits into the Action genre . This is because a lot of drama seem to happen in the film . This includes chases , fights , violence and under cover work . This is demonstrated in the trailer which gets peoples attention and makes some want to watch the film .

The man that playes James Bond is Daniel Craig . He is well known for playing The role of James Bond and has also appeared in other films , for example The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo . The director of the film ( Sam Mendes ) is also well known for making action films and in particular , the James Bond films .

The release date for the film in the UK was on the 26th October 2015.

The first trailer that got released for the film was on the 27th March 2015.

There has been a teaser trailer that was released in march to give people a taste of what to expect from the main trailer and film . One of the characters from the film also done an interview on Good Morning Britain .

The reviews for this film were ok . People either really liked it or was really disappointed with it . Quite a few people were fairly disappointed with the film because they said it was a bit too predictable .
Quotes from reviews included "Many parts of the film feel like a throwback to classic Bond"
"The performances were just fine but the story line is so terrible"
"Really poor plot"

The budget for Spectre budget was $245000000

The main star in the film is James Bond ( Daniel Craig )

Daniel Craig has appeared in 3 007 films and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo .

LR post

EBI: Some of your comments are a bit sweeping (too broad and general) - your LR should clarify this.

LR: I think the target audience for Avengers Age Of  Ultron is for people aged 8 and over . I think this because young people of this age in particular males are into films that have a bit of action an adventure in . As a result of this ,  families that have younger children would be attracted to the film because they would want to take their kids to see it . I think that the people that go to see the film are of a middle class that have a decent education . It would also take the interest of teenagers and young adults that have an interest in sci-fi films that have heroes and villains because it has action and adventure in it which people like them .

I think that this film was successful at box office because the first film was released in 2012 and Age of Ultron got released in 2015 which means it took 3 years for the second film to come out. This means that people would of really wanted to see the second film to see what its like . It was also available to see in 2D , 3D and in imax . 3D and imax would of attracted a lot of people who would of brought tickets specifically for 3D or imax . Finally ,  it was successful because  people would of also brought tickets to see the film in 2D which would of sold a lot because it is cheaper .

camerawork : minority report shot-by-shot analysis

The medium close up shot allows the audience to see the characters facial expressions and shows them how they are feeling . Behind the people you can see stairs and as they are at the bottom of them it suggests that they have entered the area that they are in . The characters also have a bit of a surprised look which can show the audience they are shocked to see what they have found or seen . Also , the fact they are all lined up suggests that they are serious and makes them look more powerful .

The wide shot gives the audience an incite of the location that the characters are in and in this case its an alleyway . The image shows a man running away from something and the camera looks as if it has been zoomed out . This makes the person look small and as a result the audience could think that there's not much hope for him . This can make the audience have sympathy for the man because he could be in trouble . The derelict car that is there could make the audience infer that the man's future doesnt look to bright .

The close up shot lets the audience see the persons facial expression and how he could be feeling . It looks as if the man is about to say something and it looks as if he is going to do something that could surprise the audience . The audience can interpret this by reading his body language and seeing his facial expressions . The camera has zoomed in slightly to help show his expressions more . The angle is a little bit high which makes him look weaker and a little bit helpless.

my fruit bowl

My theme for my fruit bowl was Autumn . I chose the image in the top right hand corner to get different colours to colour in my fruit bowl . I added the colours by using the eyedropper tool . By using this tool you can select colours from an image you have put into photoshop and then put the colours you have chosen into an image.

For my second image I still stuck with the Autumn theme . This time however I got two images from google to put into my picture . The first image I used as a background and the second image I used to put into one of the fruits . I did this by selecting parts of my image then I went to paste special and hovered over then clicked on paste into . My image then got pasted into parts of my fruit bowl.

media key concepts

Language: The title of this film is " Guardians of the galaxy " . This title suggests that this film fits into the sci-fi genre because the setting of the film is in space . The sub genre to the film could be alien invasion or space because its set in space and have aliens and robots that want to have control over the galaxies . The denotation for this is an unusual group that looks like they are in space and trying to fight something of . The connotation is that these mutant people are under attack and have to defend them selves .

Institution: The film was produced by Kevin Feige who made the film for marvel studios who are best known for their super hero films . Marvel are also known for making comics linked to their films which graps the attention of many young viewers . This helped the films success as it got recognised more in the media .

Audience: I think the audience is roughly 7-18 . I think this because it has action that will attract older viewers and marvel studios also release comics and toys that attract younger viewers . This film also attracted famines too as they would of had to take their children to see the film .

Representation: This poster is represents a group which includes 2 mutant people , a human , a raccoon and an alien . It is unusual to see a female character that plays a dominant role in the film . Its also unusual to have an animal that plays a main character too because sci-fi dont tend to include things like this .

Science fiction film holiday home work

                                                           Avengers Age Of Ultron
The key information about the film / media language:

This second avengers film fits into the sub genre of experimental science .  This is because one of the characters in the film creates robots that he believes will help people in their day to day to day lives but he didn't knew that they would rebel and try and take over the world . It also has a bit of dystopia in it because they character that created the robots gets a vision of what would become of him and his friends and what the world be like if the robots ruled.

In the film , Iron man ( one of the main characters ) creates robots that he thinks will benefit people as they can help them do things . However , one of the robots became too intelligent and managed to become his own person . He then leads an army of robots to help rule the world . All the avengers have to help destroy Altron ( the robot leader ) and the rest of his army .

It is set in various locations but one of the main location is a large room in a building that has very advanced technology and different devises tat look futuristic . This links to the genre because the gadgets there are advanced and look like they could be potential future inventions .

The characters in the film are linked to sci-fi because they have either been mutated or experimented on which links to sci-fi . Iron Man has a suite that he created by using technology . Hulk was genetically mutated which makes him very powerful . Many of the other characters were are also powerful which also links them to sci-fi .

The production company that created this film is Marvel which have created many different sci-fi films that include heroes and villains that have been scientifically mutated in some way . Joss Whedon directed the film .

Cast :
Scarlett Johansson - Black Widow
Robert John Downey Jr - iron man
Chris Evens - Captain America
Elizabeth Olsen - Wanda Maximoff
Chris Hemsworth - Thor
 Mark Alan Ruffalo - Hulk
Jeremy Renner - Hawk eye
James spader - Ultron ( voice )
Aaron Taylor-Johnson - Quick Silver
Samuel Leroy Jackson - Nick Fury

The film was released April 23, 2015 (UK

The Walt Disney Company runs marvel studios
 .
Marvel studios is best known for creating films that includes some sort of hero(s) and villain(s) . Marvel also release comics for people to enjoy and hopefully get them more interested in their films.

Budget : The budget was estimated at around $250,000,000

Many people have made a review of the film and many were not impressed by it . Out of the views that I read , 9/10 people didn't like the film as they thought if it as "pointless" and "disappointing" . Despite the fact that many didn't enjoy the film , it still got 6 nominations and 1 win at Chose movie : Scene stealer .

This film was targeted at young viewers that love movies that have superhero's in it and a lot of action .It also could have been targeted at teenagers and young adults which like so see some action and adventure in a film and they could also have a particular interest in marvel films .

music artist promotion

Monday 6 July 2015

The message of this advertisement is freedom. I chose the freedom theme because it shows that everyone should have the opportunity to be free. The three images show different types of freedom. The first image shows birds that look like they are being released from a jar and have the opportunity to be free . The second image shows a couple and their child at a beach . This represents freedom as they could have always wanted to be alone in a nice area just as a family . The final image shows a picture of Nelson Mandela . This represents freedom as he wanted black people to have the same rights and equalities as white people and for them to be free. Overall , these images show freedom as people and animals are being released from all the unfairness that they have been through in their lives .
I created these images by using photo shop . I did this by editing them and making the word "freedom" stand out more . I did this by adding an outer glow to them which made it appear better .

I could have improved this by maybe choosing a better font colour to make it more eye catching and maybe engage people more . I also could have edited the pictures a little to take out things to make it look better .

I think the target audience for this advertisement is people aged 18+ . This is because if you want freedom from something  then you should fight for it and in the end it will pay off because you would have finally got what you deserve .

my science fiction film pitch

key details :

My group: Me , Shianne , Halimo and Zayna

Film title : Lesbots take over

Science fiction sub genre : Experimental science , dystopia and comedy . Experimental science because robots have been created for humans benefits . Dystopia because its set in the near future and life for humans doesnt look good as the robots turn against the humans as a result of them being used for their entertainment . Finally ,comedy because some people may find the film funny and there would be funny phrases in there too.

Brief narrative : This film is about lesbian and straight robots that have been created for human entertainment in Los vegas . As a result of homosexuality not being permitted in LV the lesbian robots get treated worse than the straight ones . This only gives them more of a reason to rebel against the humans .

Director:$10m

Cast:$20m

Filming locations:$20m

Cameras:$5m

Editing:$5m

CGI/Special effects (SFX):$8m

Sound:$2m

Marketing:$2m

Total cost = $72

I think our film will be successful because its different to other films and will get people on the edge of their seats . As the film is about human like robots that have a sexuality , it should encourage people to come and watch it because you dont get films like this and its something new .Also , its taking a risk and trying out new themes to a film that has robots in it . It will also be successful because sci-fi films which have robots that try to take over in it are classic and will encourage more people to come and watch it .A book could be released on it as well which would entice people to watch the film too. In addition , the film is based on robots taking over which will also make people want to go and watch the film. As a result of us spending a fair amount of money special effects , it will make the film look more interesting and better . The target audience for this film is about 15-25 year olds which is good because young people like to go to the cinema and hopefully watch this film witch would boost the income that we get from it . Finally ,  the film will create tension and will keep people guessing throughout and as a result of this , people will like the film and tell their friends and family about it which will make it even more successful .
